Alistair has over 35 years of experience as a financial adviser and was one of the first advisers in the UK to be awarded the title of Chartered Financial Planner when this was first awarded in 2005. The title of Chartered Financial Planner is awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and is recognised as a pinnacle of professional excellence within the financial services profession.
Over and above achieving Chartered Financial Planner status, in September 2007 Alistair qualified as a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society (FPFS). The status of FPFS is one of the most highly respected recognitions of professional excellence within UK financial services, with only a small number of advisers qualified to this level.
In May 2008, Alistair became the first ever person to be awarded the President's Quaich from the Insurance Society of Edinburgh in recognition of this achievement.
In April 2009, Alistair was elected to serve on the Council of the Insurance Society of Edinburgh, and served as Treasurer of the Insurance Society of Edinburgh (ISE) from 2012 to 2020. In April 2019, Alistair was elected as Deputy President of the ISE, going on to be elected as President of the Insurance Society of Edinburgh in 2020, which is a role he held for two years.
Following on from this, Alistair served as both the Local Institute National Forum Representative and Education Secretary, before finally stepping down from the Council in April 2025.
